How about adding an article about the roof of the Alpine Visitor Center. It the most unusual roof I have ever seen on a building and was thinking there ought to be a story behind it.

Thanks for your question. I called the National Park and asked about the roof on the Alpine Visitor Center. They told me the logs were on the roof to deflect the wind. There is no particular name for that type of roof and they had no information about how that idea came about. They said the winter wind up there is often 100 mph and the building is not necessarily covered in snow in the winter time because the wind blows it off. So, the timbers are there not to weigh down the roof but to change the direction of the wind. And, it works!

Sounds to me like the timbers act like a heavy duty snow fence for the roof. What do you think?
