In 1873, Scottish gamekeeper Alexander Fleming traveled to the United States in the company of the Earl of Dunraven on a cross-country hunting expedition, spending a few weeks after Christmas in a little-known and poorly-accessible park in the Rocky Mountains. Fleming kept a daily diary of his 1873 trip, and this diary was passed down through his family and finally transcribed by his great-grandson Randy Pikuet in 1980. Fleming's diary is the only surviving accurate record of a Dunraven-led Colorado trip. John Meissner, Estes Park History Rescue Project (EPHRP)spokesperson, will point out the significance of this previously unpublished diary in the context of Lord Dunraven's ten poorly documented trips to North American between 1869 and 1882. The May installment of the EPHRP-sponsored lecture series is free, and free appetizers and drinks will be provided. ephrp@mail.com 1:30 5/9/09
