"Breaking Through the Clouds" is a collection of Richard Flecks mountaineering essays from the four-corner states, and the Black Hills of South Dakota (including an unpublished prayer of Nicholas Black Elk to the spirit of the West made atop Harney Peak in 1931) with several alpine interludes in Asia, Alaska and New England. Fleck will read from the Longs Peak section depicting his nighttime and daytime ascents as well as his envisioning of Major John Wesley Powells first-ever ascent in 1868. During the reading he will show colorful slides of Longs Peak, and will be available afterwards for questions and signing of his book. Copies will be available for sale. Admission is free. Sponsored by the Estes Park Museum Friends & Foundation.
