Ferns & Granites -- How Geology & Botany Connect: This seminar, co-taught by a biologist and a geologist, will give participants a new perspective on how rocks and plants combine to form unique landscapes. Learn why a beautiful a specific fern grows only on south-facing granite slopes. Explore how rocks and their structures offer special niches for plants to grow and how plants and climate work together through rock weathering to enlarge these niches. Put these processes together, add the effect of geologic time, and you will be able to comprehend the evolution of landscapes and plant communities. At the end of this class, you may see the beautiful scenery of Rocky Mountain National Park through new eyes. $85 Rocky Mountain Nature Association. 970-586-0108.
