Harvey is a 1944 play by American playwright Mary Chase about an affable man Elwood P. Dowd and his imaginary friend Harvey, a 6 foot 3 - inch tall rabbit. The play premiered in November, 1944 on Broadway and ran for 1,775 performances before closing in January, 1949. In 1945 Chase won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the production.
