Professor Jim Walsh describes life for the Irish in the Leadville mines and in Colorado. They came in the 1840s and 1850s driven by the Great Famine. On the East Coast, they had encountered "Help Wanted" signs with the added notation, "No Irish Need Apply." So, they moved west helping to build the transcontinental railroad into Utah and mining in Colorado.
