Learning Lessons: Management Decisions of the Past and Future
The Lyceum, from its beginnings with the scholar Aristotle in ancient Greece to the American Lyceums of the 1880s featured renowned speakers like Emerson, Thoreau, Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony, has come to mean many things: lectures, discussions, plays and concerts. Yet through the centuries, the purpose of the Lyceum has remained unchanged: to stimulate thought and increase understanding."
Guest speakers are an important part of our interpretive outreach
efforts, bringing an added dimension of information and expertise to our
visitors. Our theme for spring 2008 is Learning Lessons: Management
Decisions of the Past and Future. As Rocky Mountain National Park's
centennial approaches, we feel it is a good time to look at
understanding the past (as we are living in the results of decisions
made previously), facing the issues of today, and looking forward to the
future. We are interested in how real people make real decisions about
real problems in the entire Rocky Mountain Region, as well as in the
park. From climate to forests history to wildlife to water to policy to
monitoring...... many topics will be presented, looking forward or back
in time, on factors affecting this landscape and our decisions about it.
