Tree Island

"Krummholz" is a term used to describe the tree islands found in the upper reaches of the subalpine forests. This scene was captured on a very foggy day along Trail Ridge Road, just above Rainbow Curve. At this elevation, trees only inches in girth can be hundreds of years old.
