Aspen Gold Rush

Aspen start turning in late August at higher elevations and the golden leaves work their way down to lower elevations in October. The peak of the gold rush in this Rocky Region is usually in late September. Daylight and elevation set the timing of the color season. Rain, snow, cold and wind affect the intensity of color. Bear Lake Road, the Peak to Peak National Scenic Byway, the Cache la Poudre National Scenic Byway and the Colorado River Headwaters National Scenic Byway are favorite drives for fall color.
