Moose

Moose frequent willow thickets along the Colorado River in the Kawuneeche Valley on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Moose also live in the wetlands of Colorado State Park where there is an excellent visitor center focused on moose.

The scenic drive in North Park also passes through good moose-spotting territory. Moose are seen year-round in all these locations.

Sometimes a moose visits Estes Park and the area south of the Park near I70. These are very special occassions! Here's a picture of a cow and calf spotted at Sprague Lake on Memorial Day, 2008.

LuLu City

Follows a gentle grade to the site of the old 1880's gold mining camp of Lulu City. Not much remains now, but this historic area is written up in a trail booklet available at visitor centers for a nominal price. Keep an eye out for moose.... [more]

Coyote Valley

Kawuneeche, the Arapaho word for coyote, was the name given to this gentle valley of the Upper Colorado River. he trail follows the bank of the Colorado River with views of the Never Summer Mountains. Look for moose (especially during the early morning and early evening hours), songbirds and wildflowers.... [more]
