Fishing Rocky Mountain National Park

Fishing opportunities in the Rocky region range from high country catch and release fly fishing to big lake fishing to wintertime ice fishing.

Rocky Mountain National Park, headwaters for the Colorado, Big Thompson, Cache la Poudre, and Fall Rivers, provides high country stream and lake fishing.  As these rivers flow from the Park, they grow into popular fishing areas on both the East and West sides.

Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain, and Lake Granby on the West side are large lakes with commercial marinas, boat rentals, and fishing charters.  Lake Estes and Marys Lake on the East side are smaller.

When fishing Rocky Mountain National Park, the Colorado license fee applies to fishers 16 years and older.  In Colorado, the first weekend in June each year is free - no license required. Other regulations still apply.  Local shops and marinas are excellent sources of information, equipment, guides, charters, and the necessary Colorado fishing license.
