Winter Family Activities

Join a Ranger to explore the winter world of Rocky Mountain National Park.

On the East side of the Park, Snowshoe Ecology Walks are a fun winter family activity.  In 2017 they will be held Jan 7 through March 19 on Sat., Sun., & Wed. at 12:30 pm.  Participants must be 8 years of age or older, and will need to bring your own snowshoes or traction devices depending on snow conditions.  Reservations are required and can be made a week ahead of time - call (970) 586-1223.

On the West side of the Park, Beginner Snowshoe programs (Winter Ecology Walks) are on Saturdays from 1 pm to 3 pm from Dec. 31, 2016 through Mar. 4, 2017 and Intermediate Snowshoe programs are on Sundays from 1 pm to 3 pm from Jan. 1 through Mar. 5, 2017.  Participants must be 8 and up only.  Bring your own snowshoes and call (970) 627-3471 to reserve a place in advance.

Ski Kawuneechee Valley with a Ranger!  Winter Skiing Programs begin Saturday mornings from Dec 31, 2016 - January 28, 2017 from 9:30 am to 11 am.  Reserve your place by calling (970) 627-3471 up to one week ahead of time.

Full Moon Walks are another great outdoor activity in winter that the whole family can enjoy.  Join a Ranger to explore the Park under the light of the full moon on Dec. 13, 2016 and Jan. 12, Feb. 10, and Mar. 12, 2017.  Reservations are necessary  - call (970) 586-1223 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to reserve a spot.

Another family activity in the Park during winter is the Wild in Winter program on Sat. & Sun. from 10 am to 11 am through Mar 19., 2017 at the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center.
