This trail is great for beginners as well as providing beautiful scenery. The trail starts on Routt National Forest and crosses into Colorado State Forest State Park. Follow the ditch road as far as you wish, but at the 3 mile mark you will be faced with a decision to turn left up towards Michigan Lake (more difficult) or continue along the ditch road for another mile or so. At the five mile mark the Michigan Ditch crosses some serious avalanche paths and further travel is not advised. Snowmobiles occasionally use the ditch road. Note: You will need to purchase a Colorado Sate Parks day use pass - there is a self-registration box near the start of the trail.
