Winter Family Activities

Join a Ranger to explore the winter world of Rocky Mountain National Park.

On the East (Estes Park) side of the Park, Winter Showshoe Explorations are a fun winter family activity.  In 2020 they will be held Jan 10 through March 22 on  Fri. & Sun.,  from 12:30 - 2:30 pm. with no programs on Jan 19 and Feb 16. 

Participants must be 8 years of age or older, and will need to bring your own snowshoes or traction devices depending on snow conditions.  Reservations are required and can be made a week ahead of time - call (970) 586-1223.

Snowshoe Kawuneechee Valley with a Ranger!  Winter Beginner Snowshoe Programs start from Dec 27, 2019 - Feb. 28, 2020 on Fridays at 1:30pm.  To reserve your place call (970) 586-1513 up to one week ahead of time.

Full Moon Walks are another great outdoor activity in winter that the whole family can enjoy.

Join a Ranger to explore the Park under the light of the full moon on Dec. 11, 2019 and Jan. 10, Feb. 9, and Mar. 9, 2020

Reservations are necessary  - call (970) 586-1223 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to reserve a spot no more than 7 days in advance.  Maximum six people per reservation.

Another family activity in the Park during winter is the Wild in Winter program on Sat. & Sun. from 10 am to 10:30 am at the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center.  Begins Dec. 7.
